About the role

Insurance underwriting is the art of pricing risk — and our models do it faster and more accurately than traditional actuarial methods. We serve 6 insurance carriers across Europe, pricing auto, home, and commercial policies. Our models analyze claim histories, property data, credit signals, and external risk factors to generate premium recommendations. You'll build and refine the pricing models: feature engineering from heterogeneous data sources, training gradient boosting and neural network ensembles, calibrating predicted loss ratios, and building the explainability layer that regulators require for automated pricing decisions. Insurance is one of the oldest industries in the world, and AI is transforming it. If you enjoy applying ML to a domain where accuracy has direct financial consequences and regulatory scrutiny is intense, you'll find this work deeply engaging.

Responsibilities

  • Build pricing models for auto, home, and commercial insurance lines
  • Engineer features from claim histories, property data, and external risk signals
  • Calibrate predicted loss ratios against actual claim outcomes
  • Develop explainability layers for regulatory compliance on automated pricing
  • Run backtests comparing AI pricing against traditional actuarial methods

Requirements

  • 3+ years in ML or data science with financial or insurance experience
  • Strong scikit-learn and Python skills for tabular modeling
  • Understanding of insurance or actuarial concepts (pricing, loss ratios)
  • Experience with model explainability techniques (SHAP, LIME)
  • SQL proficiency for large-scale claims data analysis
