AI Inventory Optimization Engineer

About the role

Retailers hold $1.5 trillion in excess inventory globally. Every unsold item represents tied-up capital, warehouse costs, and eventually, markdowns that destroy margin. Our optimization platform tells retailers exactly how much of each product to order, when to reorder, and when to markdown — across 100,000 SKUs and 500 store locations. You'll build the optimization engine: demand sensing models that incorporate weather, events, and competitive signals, replenishment algorithms that minimize stockouts while controlling inventory carrying costs, and the markdown optimization system that maximizes revenue recovery on slow-moving items. Retail inventory optimization is a constraint satisfaction problem at scale. Lead times vary by supplier. Warehouse capacity is finite. Seasonal products have expiration dates. You'll encode these constraints into models that produce actionable recommendations every morning for every store in the network.

Responsibilities

  • Build demand sensing models incorporating weather, events, and competitive signals
  • Design replenishment algorithms minimizing stockouts and inventory carrying costs
  • Develop markdown optimization maximizing revenue recovery on slow-moving inventory
  • Encode retail constraints — lead times, capacity, seasonality — into optimization models
  • Scale recommendations across 100,000 SKUs and 500 store locations

Requirements

  • 5+ years in ML with supply chain or retail optimization experience
  • Strong PyTorch and scikit-learn skills for demand forecasting
  • Experience with large-scale optimization and constraint satisfaction
  • Spark proficiency for processing retail transaction data
  • Understanding of inventory management and replenishment theory
