AI Language Learning Exercise Generator

About the role

Language learning apps need thousands of exercises — fill-in-the-blank, sentence reordering, translation prompts, listening comprehension — and each one must be linguistically accurate, appropriately difficult for the learner's level, and engaging enough that they don't close the app after 3 minutes. Creating these exercises manually is expensive and slow; generating them with AI is fast but requires careful quality control. You'll build the exercise generation pipeline: taking a target grammar concept and vocabulary list, generating exercises at the correct difficulty level, validating linguistic accuracy against our grammar rule engine, and filtering for natural-sounding sentences. The pipeline needs to produce 500 new exercises per day across 8 languages without quality degradation. The language AI team is four engineers. You'll start with the generation module for the three languages you know best, then extend to others using our grammar rule framework. A computational linguist reviews your output weekly and provides feedback that shapes your prompt engineering and quality filters.

Responsibilities

  • Build exercise generation pipelines for multiple language learning formats
  • Implement difficulty calibration matching exercises to learner proficiency levels
  • Validate generated exercises against grammar rule engines
  • Filter for natural-sounding sentences that engage learners
  • Scale generation to 500 exercises per day across 8 languages
  • Incorporate feedback from computational linguist reviews

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development experience
  • Familiarity with LLM prompting and output quality control
  • Basic understanding of linguistics or language teaching concepts
  • Experience with LangChain or similar LLM frameworks
  • Proficiency in at least 2 languages
