AI Live Event Highlight Detection Engineer

About the role

Sports highlights used to require an editor watching the entire game. Our system detects highlight-worthy moments in real time — goals, saves, controversial calls, crowd reactions — and generates broadcast-ready clips within 30 seconds of the event. We cover 400 live events per week across soccer, basketball, and esports for media companies and betting platforms. The detection models combine video analysis (player movement, ball tracking, scoreboard changes) with audio analysis (crowd noise spikes, commentator excitement) to identify moments that matter. Your job is improving detection precision while keeping false positive rates low enough that a human editor trusts the system's output without reviewing every clip. The video intelligence team is six engineers. You'll own the highlight detection module while others handle camera selection, clip editing, and distribution. Expect to watch a lot of sports — it's the most enjoyable way to build evaluation datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Improve highlight detection precision across multiple sports
  • Build multi-modal models combining video, audio, and scoreboard signals
  • Design evaluation frameworks using expert-annotated highlight labels
  • Reduce false positive rates to build editor trust in automated clips
  • Optimize models for real-time processing with sub-30-second latency
  • Expand detection to new sports and event types

Requirements

  • 5+ years in computer vision or video understanding
  • Experience with temporal event detection in video or audio
  • Strong PyTorch skills for multi-modal model development
  • Understanding of real-time processing constraints
  • Interest in sports or live media is a strong plus
