About the role

Live music is the hardest audio environment to automate. The acoustics change as the crowd fills in. The performer deviates from the rehearsed arrangement. The monitor mix that worked at soundcheck feels wrong by the second song. A human FOH engineer makes hundreds of micro-adjustments throughout a show, drawing on years of trained intuition. We're building the AI that assists — not replaces — that engineer. Our adaptive audio system analyzes the live mix in real time, detecting frequency buildups, monitoring loudness levels against venue-specific targets, and suggesting EQ and compression adjustments before problems become audible to the audience. The key word is suggesting — the engineer remains in control, but the system catches the things that slip past when you're managing 48 channels at once. You'll build the signal analysis pipeline: feature extraction from live audio streams, the ML models that classify acoustic events and predict mix degradation, and the recommendation engine that translates model outputs into actionable suggestions for engineers. Target latency: under 50ms end-to-end.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build real-time audio feature extraction pipeline from live streaming audio
  • Develop ML models for acoustic event classification and mix quality prediction
  • Design recommendation engine translating model outputs to engineer-readable suggestions
  • Optimize end-to-end latency to under 50ms for live performance contexts
  • Build evaluation frameworks comparing AI suggestions against expert engineer decisions
  • Collaborate with audio engineers as subject matter advisors

Requirements

  • 3+ years in audio ML, signal processing, or real-time audio systems
  • Experience with audio feature extraction: MFCCs, spectral features, onset detection
  • Strong Python and PyTorch skills
  • Understanding of real-time processing constraints and latency budgets
  • Background in music production or live audio is a genuine advantage

Benefits

  • Fully remote
  • Health and dental
  • Annual studio gear allowance of $1,500
  • Access to live performance datasets from our venue partners
  • Flexible hours with no fixed schedule
