About the role

Our AI writing assistant works great in English. In German, it's passable. In Japanese, it's embarrassing. We need a freelance localization engineer to fix this — not by translating prompts, but by re-engineering our entire AI pipeline to work natively across 6 target languages. The work involves evaluating multilingual model performance, fine-tuning language-specific models where needed, adapting prompts for cultural and linguistic nuance, and building evaluation frameworks that capture quality differences across languages. You'll work with native speakers in each target language who serve as quality reviewers. This is a 4-month engagement with clear deliverables per language. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and benchmark AI pipeline performance across 6 target languages
  • Fine-tune language-specific models where multilingual models underperform
  • Adapt prompts for cultural and linguistic nuance per language
  • Build evaluation frameworks capturing quality differences across languages
  • Coordinate with native speaker reviewers for quality validation

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP with multilingual system experience
  • Hands-on Hugging Face and PyTorch for model fine-tuning
  • Experience with prompt engineering for non-English languages
  • Fluency in English plus at least one other target language
  • Ability to deliver independently within scoped engagement timelines
