AI Machine Downtime Cost Estimator

Olivia Wang

Full-time · Job · Chicago

About the role

Our plant managers can tell you a line went down, but they can't tell you what it actually cost until finance closes the books three weeks later. We're looking for someone to close that gap. You'll build models that translate sensor-level downtime events into real-time cost estimates, factoring in shift schedules, order backlogs, and material spoilage risk, then ship those numbers straight into the floor dashboards operators already use. You'll work closely with our existing inspection and forecasting teams, who've already laid the data foundation you need.

Responsibilities

  • Build cost-attribution models on top of existing downtime event streams
  • Own the pipeline connecting sensor data to financial reporting
  • Validate estimates against actual finance close numbers monthly
  • Ship dashboards operators can read in seconds, not spreadsheets

Requirements

  • 3+ years in applied data science or analytics engineering
  • Solid SQL and Python for production pipelines
  • Experience translating operational data into business metrics
  • Manufacturing or industrial domain exposure a plus

Benefits

  • Fully remote position
  • Competitive salary + equity
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Flexible PTO
