AI Machine Downtime Root Cause Classifier

About the role

You'll be the newest member of a seven-person industrial AI team supporting manufacturing clients running around-the-clock production lines. We already collect sensor telemetry from thousands of machines. What's missing is a classifier that tells operators why a machine went down, not just that it did, so maintenance crews stop guessing. Your role is to build and refine the root cause classification model under supervision from senior engineers, working directly with real downtime logs from client factories.

Responsibilities

  • Build classification models identifying likely causes of machine downtime
  • Work with senior engineers to validate classifications against maintenance logs
  • Clean and structure sensor telemetry data for model training
  • Support production monitoring of classifier accuracy
  • Document findings for the maintenance operations team

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of classification modeling
  • Comfortable with Python and scikit-learn
  • Some exposure to industrial or sensor data a plus
  • Eagerness to learn from senior team members
