AI Manipulation Skill Imitation Learning Developer

About the role

We publish internally, run weekly paper reading sessions, and expect senior researchers to submit to ICRA, CoRL, and NeurIPS. Fovix Labs is building the next generation of dexterous robot manipulation systems, and imitation learning from demonstration is our core research track for transferring human manipulation skills to robot policies. In this senior research role, you'll design and implement imitation learning algorithms — including behavior cloning variants, DAgger, and inverse RL approaches — evaluated on our in-house manipulation benchmarks. You'll work with robot hardware engineers to collect high-quality demonstration data, build the policy training infrastructure, and run sim-to-real transfer experiments on our physical robot fleet. This role requires both deep RL research fluency and the engineering rigor to turn research prototypes into reproducible systems. We offer top-of-market compensation because the bar for this role is genuinely high — we want someone who has published in this space, not just read the papers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement imitation learning algorithms for dexterous robot manipulation
  • Build policy training infrastructure including demonstration data pipelines
  • Run sim-to-real transfer experiments and validate policies on physical robots
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on demonstration data collection
  • Author and submit research papers on manipulation policy learning

Requirements

  • PhD or 6+ years research experience in robotics, RL, or imitation learning
  • Deep PyTorch skills and experience implementing policy learning algorithms
  • Familiarity with robot simulation environments (MuJoCo, IsaacGym)
  • Publication record in robotics or ML conferences preferred
  • Experience with real robot hardware deployment
