AI Model Capability Forecasting Researcher

Aria Watanabe

Full-time · Job · Los_Angeles

About the role

Benchmark scores and scaling curves are the core of what we build our forecasting on, and lately internal predictions about when a given capability would emerge have been consistently wrong in both directions. We publish internally and encourage conference submissions, so this role expects you to read the latest scaling law research and turn findings into forecasts the alignment and safety teams can actually plan around. You'll maintain a growing set of capability benchmarks and translate trend lines into forecasts with honest uncertainty bounds, not false precision dressed up as a confident number.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain capability benchmarks used for internal forecasting
  • Research and apply findings from scaling law literature
  • Translate benchmark trends into forecasts with honest uncertainty bounds
  • Present capability forecasts to the alignment and safety teams

Requirements

  • 5+ years in ML research with a strong publication record
  • Deep familiarity with scaling laws and benchmark methodology
  • Comfortable communicating uncertainty clearly to technical stakeholders

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible research hours
  • Dedicated budget for conference travel and publications
  • Internal research time allocated each month
