AI Model Checkpoint Compression Engineer

About the role

We just closed our Series A and are scaling fast, which means our training checkpoints are growing faster than our storage budget can absorb. We need a senior infrastructure engineer who can cut checkpoint size without slowing down recovery time after a crash. Fast-moving team, big problem, no patience for six-month research detours — we need someone who ships a working compression scheme within the first sprint and hardens it over the next two. You'll own this end to end, from prototype to the on-call rotation that supports it.

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship checkpoint compression for large training jobs
  • Own recovery time benchmarks after simulated crashes
  • Integrate compression into the existing mlflow tracking setup

Requirements

  • 5+ years in ml infrastructure or distributed systems
  • Deep familiarity with checkpointing and fault tolerance
  • Comfortable owning production on-call for your own systems
