About the role

Matching a purchase order to an invoice sounds simple until the invoice is in euros, the PO is in dollars, the currency rate was locked at a different date, the invoice has a line item discount the PO does not mention, and the vendor name on the invoice uses a slightly different spelling than what is in the ERP system. Finance teams waste days on these mismatches. We automate them. Our accounts payable automation platform handles multi-currency invoice reconciliation for 190 mid-market companies across 28 countries. The matching engine resolves 91% of invoices automatically; the remaining 9% go to a human queue. Your job is to push that to 96% by improving the matching logic for common edge cases: currency conversion timing differences, line item restructuring, partial deliveries, and vendor name disambiguation. This is a junior role with a clear technical problem. Your senior engineering partner will teach you the domain; you will build the matching features based on patterns extracted from the human review queue.

Responsibilities

  • Improve invoice-to-PO matching accuracy for currency conversion edge cases
  • Build vendor name disambiguation using entity matching and fuzzy linking
  • Implement line item restructuring detection for split and consolidated invoice scenarios
  • Create partial delivery reconciliation logic for goods receipt matching
  • Write automated tests validating matching rules against labeled exception history
  • Maintain the exception routing pipeline as new match failure patterns emerge

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Interest in finance automation, accounts payable, or document processing
  • Basic understanding of fuzzy string matching and entity resolution
  • Methodical approach to edge case analysis and rule documentation
  • Comfortable working with structured financial data
