AI Multi-Repo Search Indexing Engineer

About the role

Kafka for change events, Spark for batch reindexing, and a search layer that needs to stay fresh across hundreds of developer repositories are the core of what you'll own. As a fully async team spread across nine time zones, we believe great engineers can do their best work without a single mandatory meeting. You will build and maintain the indexing pipeline that keeps our cross-repo code search fresh as developers push changes throughout the day, balancing index freshness against reindexing cost at scale. This is interesting because very few teams get to solve search freshness at the scale of hundreds of repositories updating continuously, and the tradeoffs you make directly shape how fast every developer using our platform can find code.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the cross-repo search indexing pipeline
  • Balance index freshness against reindexing cost
  • Monitor indexing lag and alert on staleness
  • Partner with the search relevance team on ranking signals
  • Document indexing architecture decisions

Requirements

  • 3+ years working with search infrastructure or data pipelines
  • Experience with Kafka and Spark
  • Comfortable working async across time zones
  • Strong Python skills
