AI Multi-Turn Query Rewriting Engineer

About the role

LangChain, retrieval-augmented generation, and a dialogue state tracker sit at the center of the conversational assistant our team ships today, but users routinely ask follow-up questions that only make sense with the last three turns of context in mind. If you know how to rewrite an ambiguous follow-up into a self-contained query without losing what the user actually meant, we want to talk. You'll take ownership of the rewriting layer that sits between our dialogue state tracker and retrieval, iterating on how well it preserves context across long conversations. We publish our findings internally and encourage the team to submit to relevant NLP conferences, so if you enjoy reading papers and turning them into shipped features, this is built for you.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the query rewriting layer for multi-turn conversations
  • Preserve context from prior turns without over-including irrelevant history
  • Run offline and online experiments to measure rewriting quality
  • Read and implement relevant research on conversational query understanding
  • Collaborate with the dialogue tracking team on shared context signals

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with information retrieval or dialogue systems
  • Hands-on experience with LangChain or similar RAG frameworks
  • Familiarity with Hugging Face models and fine-tuning workflows
  • Comfortable reading and implementing recent NLP research
  • Experience with conversational or voice-based products a plus
