About the role

"Apple" in a tech article refers to a $3 trillion company. "Apple" in a nutrition article refers to a fruit. "Apple" in a Chinese article might appear as 苹果 or as the English word, depending on context. Entity linking — connecting text mentions to the right knowledge base entry — becomes exponentially harder across languages, where the same entity has different names, spellings, and cultural contexts. Our multilingual entity linker processes documents in 23 languages, resolving mentions to a unified knowledge base of 14 million entities. You'll improve linking accuracy on the hardest cases: ambiguous mentions that require deep context understanding, entities with no exact name match in the target language, and emerging entities that aren't yet in the knowledge base. The NLP team is five engineers. You'll own the entity linking model while others handle entity extraction and knowledge base maintenance. Every improvement gets measured on a multilingual evaluation set curated by native speakers across 12 languages.

Responsibilities

  • Improve multilingual entity linking accuracy across 23 languages
  • Handle ambiguous mentions requiring deep contextual disambiguation
  • Build cross-lingual entity matching for entities without exact name correspondence
  • Design strategies for linking emerging entities not yet in the knowledge base
  • Create evaluation benchmarks validated by native speakers across 12 languages
  • Optimize linking latency for real-time document processing

Requirements

  • 5+ years in NLP with entity linking, disambiguation, or knowledge graph experience
  • Experience with multilingual models and cross-lingual transfer
  • Strong PyTorch and Hugging Face skills
  • Understanding of knowledge base structures and entity representation
  • Interest in multilingual NLP and cross-cultural information challenges
