About the role

Hugging Face and PyTorch are the core of what we build at Ulara AI. If you've adapted speech models across languages and care about getting prosody right, not just word accuracy, this role should be interesting. Our voice assistant works well in English and Spanish, but expanding into six additional languages has exposed how much of our current pipeline was quietly built assuming English phonetics. Rather than retrain from scratch per language, we need someone to design a more generalizable localization approach. We publish internally and encourage conference submissions — you'll be expected to read papers on cross-lingual transfer and bring findings back into how we approach this expansion.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design a generalizable localization approach for multilingual voice assistant models
  • Adapt speech synthesis pipelines across six target languages
  • Research and apply cross-lingual transfer techniques
  • Evaluate prosody and naturalness across languages, not just word accuracy
  • Document findings for internal publication

Requirements

  • Strong Hugging Face and PyTorch experience with speech models
  • Background in multilingual or cross-lingual NLP research
  • Comfort reading and applying academic papers to production problems
  • Experience with prosody or speech naturalness evaluation
  • Available for a focused contract engagement
