About the role

Knowledge graphs are only as useful as their schema. A poorly designed ontology creates a graph where nothing connects properly — entities are duplicated, relationships are ambiguous, and queries return garbage. Our platform helps enterprise teams design, validate, and maintain ontologies for their domain knowledge graphs. As a junior ontology engineer, you'll help clients structure their domain knowledge: reviewing existing taxonomies, identifying entity types and relationship patterns, proposing schema designs, and validating that the ontology captures the distinctions clients actually care about. Each engagement starts with domain expert interviews and ends with a tested, documented ontology. This is a rare intersection of linguistics, logic, and data modeling. You'll need to understand how domain experts think about their world and translate that understanding into formal structures that machines can reason over. If you studied philosophy, linguistics, or library science alongside programming, this role was designed for you.

Responsibilities

  • Review client domain taxonomies and identify structural issues
  • Conduct domain expert interviews to capture entity and relationship patterns
  • Design ontology schemas for enterprise knowledge graphs
  • Validate ontologies against real-world query requirements
  • Document ontology decisions and maintain versioned schema definitions

Requirements

  • Python proficiency with data analysis skills
  • Basic understanding of knowledge representation or graph concepts
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills
  • Clear communication for domain expert interviews
  • Background in linguistics, philosophy, or information science is a plus
