About the role

Every user on our learning platform gets a different experience — different content recommendations, different difficulty progression, different review schedules — all driven by ML models that adapt to individual learning patterns. We serve 500,000 monthly active learners, and personalization is the core product differentiator. You'll work on the personalization engine: collaborative filtering for content recommendations, spaced repetition optimization using reinforcement learning, and the real-time adaptation system that adjusts difficulty based on in-session performance signals. The challenge isn't just accuracy — it's speed. Personalization decisions need to happen in under 50ms, and the models need to update user profiles continuously as learners interact with content. Responsibilities

  • Build and optimize collaborative filtering models for content recommendation
  • Design spaced repetition algorithms adapting to individual learning patterns
  • Implement real-time personalization with sub-50ms latency requirements
  • Analyze learner behavior data to identify new personalization opportunities
  • Run A/B tests measuring personalization impact on learning outcomes

Requirements

  • 3+ years building personalization or recommendation systems
  • Strong PyTorch skills for model development
  • Experience with real-time serving systems and latency optimization
  • SQL and Spark skills for behavioral data analysis
  • Interest in education technology or learning science
