AI Phishing Campaign Detection Analyst

About the role

Phishing emails evolve faster than signature-based filters can keep up. A new campaign launches, bypasses filters for 6-12 hours, compromises hundreds of accounts, and then disappears. Our detection system identifies phishing campaigns from structural and linguistic patterns — the way sentences are constructed, the urgency cues used, the domain spoofing techniques, and the payload delivery methods — catching new campaigns within their first hour of deployment. As a junior analyst, you'll build the feature engineering pipeline that extracts campaign-level signals from individual phishing emails: clustering similar emails into campaigns, extracting structural patterns (header anomalies, URL patterns, sender reputation signals), and computing linguistic features that distinguish social engineering from legitimate communication. You'll also maintain the labeled dataset that the detection models train on. The email security team is four engineers. You'll pair with a senior threat analyst who has years of experience identifying phishing patterns manually. Your job is turning their intuition into computable features.

Responsibilities

  • Build feature engineering pipeline extracting campaign-level signals
  • Cluster similar phishing emails into coordinated campaigns
  • Extract structural patterns: header anomalies, URL schemes, sender signals
  • Compute linguistic features distinguishing social engineering from legitimate email
  • Maintain and expand the labeled phishing dataset
  • Support the senior threat analyst in operationalizing detection patterns

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development with text processing exposure
  • Basic understanding of email structure and web protocols
  • Familiarity with text classification concepts
  • Interest in cybersecurity and threat detection
  • Attention to detail for pattern identification
