About the role

Our game platform has 4.2 million registered players and a 30-day retention rate of 34%. The industry benchmark for comparable games is 41%. That 7-point gap represents roughly $2.8M in annual revenue we're leaving on the table, and we believe churn prediction is one of the main levers to close it. The current system flags players who haven't logged in for 7 days and sends a generic re-engagement email. It works about as well as you'd expect. We want to predict which players are likely to churn 14 days before they do, identify the behavioral signals that predict each player's specific risk, and trigger personalized re-engagement actions — the right offer, at the right moment, through the right channel. You'll build the prediction models and the feature engineering pipeline from raw event logs: session starts, in-game actions, purchase events, social interactions. The marketing team handles downstream targeting logic; your job is to give them accurate, explainable predictions with confidence scores they can act on.

Responsibilities

  • Build 14-day player churn prediction models from game event log data
  • Engineer behavioral features: session patterns, progression pace, social engagement
  • Develop a real-time scoring pipeline that updates player risk scores daily
  • Create explainability outputs that help marketing understand churn drivers
  • Run A/B tests to measure lift from churn prevention interventions
  • Monitor model accuracy against actual churn outcomes and retrain as needed

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data science with customer or user churn modeling experience
  • Strong Python and SQL skills for feature engineering at scale
  • Experience with event log data and behavioral analytics
  • Familiarity with model explainability methods like SHAP or LIME
  • Ability to communicate model outputs to non-technical marketing stakeholders
