About the role

We just signed tracking data deals with two top-flight football leagues and need a senior data engineer in Madrid now. Optical tracking produces x/y coordinates for every player and the ball 25 times a second. Our analysts and models need that data clean, synchronized with event data and available minutes after the final whistle. Today the pipeline works, but it was built for one league, not three. You'll redesign ingestion and processing in Kafka and Spark, fix synchronization issues between tracking and events, and make the platform reliable enough that clubs can depend on it on matchday.

Responsibilities

  • Redesign tracking data ingestion to support multiple leagues and providers
  • Synchronize player tracking with event data and handle occlusion gaps
  • Build Spark jobs that compute physical and tactical metrics after each match
  • Partner with club analysts on data needs and delivery timing

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building high-volume streaming and batch data pipelines
  • Strong Kafka, Spark and AWS skills
  • Experience with sports or other spatio-temporal data is a strong plus
  • Comfortable working on-site during matchday operations
