AI Policy Conflict Detection Developer

About the role

Large organizations accumulate policy documents over years. The HR policy written in 2018 contains a provision that contradicts the data handling policy updated in 2022. The expense reimbursement policy says receipts above $50 require manager approval; the travel policy says $75. These conflicts create compliance exposure — employees following one policy are unknowingly violating another — and are essentially impossible to detect manually at enterprise scale. We serve compliance and ethics functions at 70 enterprise clients with a combined 400 active policy documents and thousands of policy provisions. Policy conflict detection is the governance capability that turns a document library into a coherent policy framework. You'll build it. You'll design the policy conflict detection system: semantic parsing of policy provisions, cross-document comparison to identify logical contradictions and threshold mismatches, and conflict risk scoring that prioritizes which conflicts create the greatest compliance exposure. The output goes to policy owners who can resolve conflicts, and to compliance teams who need to communicate temporary guidance while conflicts are being resolved.

Responsibilities

  • Build semantic policy provision extraction parsing obligations, prohibitions, and thresholds from policy documents
  • Implement cross-document conflict detection identifying logical contradictions and threshold mismatches
  • Design conflict risk scoring prioritizing resolution by compliance exposure severity
  • Create conflict visualization showing the specific policy sections involved in each detected conflict
  • Build change-triggered scanning detecting new conflicts when policy documents are updated
  • Develop policy owner workflow routing conflicts to responsible parties for resolution

Requirements

  • 6+ years in software engineering with compliance automation, NLP, or legal tech experience
  • Strong Python and LLM-based document understanding skills
  • Understanding of corporate policy structures, compliance frameworks, and governance documentation
  • Experience building document comparison or logical consistency checking systems
  • Ability to define accuracy requirements for consequential compliance detection use cases
