About the role

If you raise the price of a $12 item to $13, will you sell 5% fewer units or 25% fewer? The answer depends on the product, the brand, the competitor landscape, the season, and whether the customer noticed the change at all. Our price elasticity models quantify these relationships across 45,000 SKUs for grocery and CPG retailers, powering pricing decisions that affect billions in annual revenue. The modeling challenge is causal inference in a noisy observational setting. Prices change for many reasons — cost increases, competitive moves, promotional calendars — and isolating the demand response requires careful econometric methodology. You'll build models that separate price effects from confounders, estimate cross-elasticities between competing products, and produce uncertainty bounds that pricing teams use to assess risk. The pricing analytics team is four people. You'll be the most senior modeler, working with a domain expert who has 15 years in retail pricing strategy. Together, you'll bridge the gap between statistical rigor and business applicability.

Responsibilities

  • Build price elasticity models for 45,000 SKUs across grocery and CPG
  • Design causal inference approaches separating price effects from confounders
  • Estimate cross-elasticities between competing products
  • Produce uncertainty bounds for pricing decision risk assessment
  • Run model validation against pricing experiments and holdout periods
  • Guide junior analysts on econometric methodology and data preparation

Requirements

  • 5+ years in econometrics, causal inference, or pricing analytics
  • Experience with demand modeling and price optimization
  • Strong Python or R skills with statistical modeling libraries
  • Understanding of instrumental variables, diff-in-diff, or synthetic control methods
  • Ability to communicate statistical findings to business stakeholders
