AI Purchase Order Matching Automation Developer

About the role

Three-way matching — verifying that a purchase order, goods receipt, and vendor invoice all agree on quantity and price — is one of the most tedious tasks in accounts payable. When they don't match, someone has to investigate: was it a partial shipment, a pricing change, or an error? Our automation handles the routine matches instantly and routes only the exceptions to human reviewers. You'll build the matching logic: extracting line items from vendor invoices using our OCR layer, comparing them against PO and goods receipt data in the ERP, classifying discrepancies by type and severity, and generating investigation summaries for human reviewers. The routine 80% of matches should require zero human attention; your job is making the system reliable enough that AP teams trust it to process invoices autonomously. The AP automation team is four engineers. You'll start with the PO comparison module, learning how purchase order data is structured across different ERP systems. Your senior teammate handles the OCR extraction; you handle the business logic that determines whether extracted values actually match.

Responsibilities

  • Build PO-invoice-receipt three-way matching logic
  • Classify discrepancies by type: quantity variance, price discrepancy, line mismatch
  • Generate investigation summaries for exception cases
  • Handle partial shipments, split invoices, and unit conversion differences
  • Test matching accuracy against labeled historical AP datasets
  • Document matching rules for AP team review and approval

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development with SQL proficiency
  • Logical problem-solving skills for business rule implementation
  • Basic understanding of accounts payable or procurement workflows
  • Experience with REST APIs and database queries
  • Attention to detail for financial data accuracy
