About the role

Klavio Works builds AI-powered language learning tools used by 300,000 learners across Europe and Latin America. Our grammar and multilingual QA tooling is strong — what we're adding next is adaptive reading comprehension assessment: quizzes that automatically adjust difficulty based on a learner's demonstrated comprehension level. In this junior role, you'll work alongside our NLP team to build the question generation and comprehension scoring models that power adaptive assessment. You'll fine-tune transformer models for reading comprehension tasks, develop difficulty scoring for generated questions, and help integrate these models into the learner-facing assessment flow. We're a structured team with clear sprint processes and strong documentation culture. This is a good environment for someone who wants to build NLP engineering skills in a product that has a real impact on how people learn languages. The NLP lead will mentor you closely for the first 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Fine-tune transformer models for reading comprehension question generation
  • Develop difficulty scoring models for generated comprehension questions
  • Build data pipelines for learner response collection and model retraining
  • Collaborate with the NLP team to integrate models into the assessment platform
  • Evaluate model outputs against expert-annotated comprehension benchmarks

Requirements

  • 1+ year experience with NLP or ML
  • Familiarity with Hugging Face transformers
  • Basic Python and PyTorch skills
  • Interest in education technology or language learning
  • Understanding of reading comprehension evaluation metrics is a plus
