AI Real-time Feature Engineering Lead

About the role

Feature engineering is where most ML projects succeed or fail, and most teams do it badly. Features get copy-pasted between notebooks, computed differently in training and serving, and nobody can tell you which features a model actually uses six months after deployment. We're building the feature platform that eliminates these problems for our clients. As the feature engineering lead, you'll define the abstractions that make feature development fast, reliable, and auditable. That means designing the feature definition language, building the computation engine that handles both batch and streaming, and creating the lineage tracking that tells you exactly where every feature value came from. Twelve data science teams across our client base will use what you build. You'll lead a pod of three engineers and report to the VP of Engineering. This is a technical leadership role — you'll write code, review designs, make architecture decisions, and occasionally hop on a client call to understand their feature engineering pain points firsthand.

Responsibilities

  • Design the feature definition language and computation engine
  • Build both batch and streaming feature computation paths
  • Implement feature lineage tracking and version management
  • Lead a pod of three engineers with technical direction and code review
  • Engage with clients to understand feature engineering requirements
  • Set quality standards for feature testing and validation

Requirements

  • 6+ years in data or ML engineering with feature platform experience
  • Deep expertise in both batch and streaming data processing
  • Experience with Spark, Kafka, and workflow orchestration tools
  • Strong system design skills for multi-tenant platforms
  • Ability to lead technically while maintaining hands-on contribution
