AI Real-time Game Event Prediction Developer

About the role

Kafka, PyTorch, and a real-time sports data stream from 1,200 live events per week are the foundation of this role. If you've built models that need to produce predictions in under 200ms while a game is in progress, you understand the engineering and statistical constraints here. Trivon's in-game prediction layer is our next product layer. We have strong pre-game models: injury-adjusted matchup probability and player projections. The in-game piece is harder — tracking state changes (score, possession, foul trouble, momentum) and producing updated probabilities on each significant event. This role builds it. You'll be hybrid in our NYC office 2 days per week, working alongside our lead sports scientists and platform engineers. The first sport is basketball; football and soccer follow in Q3.

Responsibilities

  • Build event-driven model update pipelines that consume live game state from Kafka
  • Develop in-game probability models that update on each significant event
  • Implement sub-200ms inference APIs for real-time probability delivery
  • Design state tracking features (score margin, time remaining, player foul state)
  • Collaborate with sports scientists to validate model outputs against historical game data

Requirements

  • 3+ years in applied ML or data science with real-time systems exposure
  • Python and PyTorch; experience with streaming data pipelines
  • Understanding of sports statistics and game theory fundamentals
  • Ability to work hybrid in New York City
