AI Regulatory Change Detection Engineer

About the role

Financial regulations change constantly — new rules, amended guidelines, withdrawn interpretations, updated FAQs. Our compliance clients need to know when a regulation that affects their business changes, what changed, and what they need to do about it. Currently, compliance officers check 30+ regulatory websites manually every morning. We automate that. You'll build the change detection pipeline: web scrapers that monitor regulatory source pages, diff algorithms that identify meaningful changes versus formatting noise, NLP classifiers that assess the impact level of each change, and notification workflows that alert the right compliance officer. It's a pipeline problem with an NLP core. The regulatory automation team is four engineers. You'll start with the scraping and diff layer, learning how regulatory websites are structured (spoiler: badly). Your senior teammate handles the NLP classification; you'll feed clean, structured change records into their models. First deliverable: monitoring pipeline for SEC and FINRA sources, shipping in 6 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Build web scrapers for regulatory source monitoring
  • Implement change detection algorithms that filter noise from meaningful updates
  • Structure detected changes for downstream NLP classification
  • Design notification workflows routing alerts to appropriate compliance staff
  • Test pipeline reliability across diverse regulatory website formats
  • Document source-specific scraping patterns and maintenance procedures

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development with web scraping experience
  • Familiarity with HTML parsing libraries: BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or similar
  • Basic understanding of text comparison and diff algorithms
  • Comfort with SQL databases and API development
  • Interest in regulatory technology or compliance automation
