About the role

We publish internally and encourage conference submissions. Our research team has contributed to NeurIPS and ICML over the past two years, and we expect new hires to continue that tradition — but with a twist. Every paper we publish must be grounded in a product application. You'll lead a research workstream on reward modeling and RLHF for our content moderation platform. The goal is to build alignment techniques that let our models adapt to client-specific content policies without full retraining. You'll have access to dedicated GPU clusters, a team of two research engineers, and a direct line to the VP of Engineering. This is a rare role that lets you do real research and see it deployed. If your ideal week includes reading papers on Monday, coding experiments on Tuesday through Thursday, and reviewing production metrics on Friday, you'll fit right in.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research on reward modeling and RLHF techniques
  • Design experiments to evaluate alignment approaches on production data
  • Publish findings at top-tier ML conferences
  • Collaborate with engineering to integrate research into the content moderation pipeline
  • Mentor research engineers on methodology and experimental design

Requirements

  • PhD in ML, NLP, or related field (or equivalent industry research experience)
  • Published work in reinforcement learning or alignment
  • Deep PyTorch expertise and hands-on coding ability
  • Experience bridging research and production engineering
  • Track record of conference publications (NeurIPS, ICML, ACL preferred)
