AI Retail Assortment Planning Engineer

About the role

We're building the next generation of AI-powered demand and assortment planning tools for grocery and retail chains, and need a data engineer who can turn messy point-of-sale data into planning-ready signals. Our clients include regional grocery chains managing tens of thousands of SKUs across hundreds of stores, and they depend on our forecasts to decide what goes on the shelf each week. In this role you'll design the pipelines that ingest POS, weather, and promotional data, then hand off clean features to our forecasting models. Reliability and auditability matter here — a bad pipeline run can mean empty shelves or wasted inventory, so every transformation needs to be traceable and testable before it reaches production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain ETL pipelines that ingest POS, weather, and promotional data daily
  • Partner with data science to define feature contracts for demand forecasting models
  • Own data quality checks and alerting for upstream planning pipelines
  • Document data lineage so planning decisions can be audited by category managers

Requirements

  • 3+ years building production data pipelines with Spark or Databricks
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for large-scale transformations
  • Experience working with retail or supply chain datasets a plus
