AI Reverse Logistics Returns Routing Engineer

About the role

Our forward logistics optimization is strong, but returns still flow through a mostly manual, rule-based system that routes items to whichever facility has capacity that day rather than the facility that actually makes economic sense. You will build a reinforcement learning based routing engine that decides where returned inventory should go, refurbishment, resale, or disposal, and to which facility, factoring in transport cost, resale likelihood, and processing capacity in real time. This is a hybrid role based out of our regional operations hub, with two days a week on-site alongside the operations team whose workflows you'll be directly reshaping.

Responsibilities

  • Design a reinforcement learning routing engine for returned inventory decisions
  • Model transport cost, resale likelihood, and facility capacity as routing constraints
  • Partner with operations leadership to validate routing decisions against real outcomes
  • Run controlled pilots comparing new routing logic against the existing rule-based system
  • Own the rollout plan for expanding routing coverage across additional facilities

Requirements

  • 6+ years in applied ML, ideally including reinforcement learning experience
  • Strong Python skills and experience with AWS-based infrastructure
  • Comfortable working with operations stakeholders on real-world constraints
  • Experience running controlled pilots or A/B tests in operational settings
