About the role

Robotic process automation handles the clicks. AI handles the decisions. Our platform combines both — bots that don't just follow scripts but make judgment calls when they encounter exceptions. A bot processing insurance claims doesn't just extract fields; it flags inconsistencies, requests missing documents, and routes complex cases to the right specialist. We need a freelance developer to build the integration layer between our RPA engine and the LLM-powered decision modules. The RPA engine produces structured context (which step, what data, what happened); the LLM module receives that context, makes a decision, and returns a structured action. Your job is building the protocol between them: reliable, observable, and fast enough to not slow down the bot. This is a 5-month engagement, 30 hours per week. We have a working RPA engine and working LLM modules — we need someone to connect them properly. The architecture is defined; the implementation details are yours to figure out.

Responsibilities

  • Build the integration protocol between RPA engine and LLM decision modules
  • Implement structured context passing and action response handling
  • Design error handling and fallback logic for LLM decision failures
  • Add observability: logging, tracing, and performance metrics
  • Test integration across 15+ automation workflows
  • Document the integration protocol for internal teams

Requirements

  • 3+ years building integration layers or middleware
  • Experience with LLM APIs and structured output parsing
  • Strong Python and API design skills
  • Understanding of reliability patterns: retries, timeouts, circuit breakers
  • Ability to work independently within a defined architecture
