About the role

When a production incident hits, engineers follow runbooks — step-by-step procedures for diagnosing and resolving specific failure modes. The problem is that runbooks live in Confluence, they're often outdated, and finding the right one during a 3 AM incident takes longer than the actual fix. Our platform converts static runbooks into executable automation that runs the diagnostic steps automatically and presents engineers with findings, not instructions. You'll build the runbook execution engine: parsing human-written procedures into executable workflows, integrating with infrastructure APIs to run diagnostic commands, and presenting structured results that tell engineers what's wrong and what the runbook recommends. The LLM handles the parsing; you handle the execution, safety checks, and result presentation. The automation team is five engineers. You'll focus on the execution layer — taking parsed runbook steps and turning them into safe, observable, and reliable automations. Safety is paramount: the system should gather information and suggest actions, never take destructive actions without human approval.

Responsibilities

  • Build the runbook execution engine for automated diagnostic workflows
  • Integrate with infrastructure APIs for safe read-only diagnostic commands
  • Implement safety checks preventing destructive actions without approval
  • Design structured result presentation for incident responders
  • Handle execution failures gracefully with fallback and retry logic
  • Test automations against simulated incident scenarios

Requirements

  • 1+ year in DevOps, SRE, or automation engineering
  • Experience with infrastructure APIs: AWS, Kubernetes, monitoring tools
  • Strong Python skills with workflow orchestration experience
  • Understanding of incident response processes and safety constraints
  • Familiarity with LLM-based text parsing is a plus
