About the role

Every international transaction must be screened against sanctions lists — OFAC, EU, UN, and 40 other regulatory bodies. Traditional screening uses fuzzy string matching that generates 98% false positives. A bank processing 500,000 transactions daily can't manually review 490,000 false alerts. Our AI screening reduces false positives by 85% while catching evasion techniques that rules-based systems miss. You'll build the screening intelligence: entity resolution that matches transaction parties against sanctions lists despite name transliterations, alias usage, and deliberate obfuscation. You'll also design the network analysis layer that identifies sanctions evasion through intermediary entities — shell companies, relatives, and business associates used to circumvent direct restrictions. Sanctions compliance has zero tolerance for false negatives. Missing a sanctioned entity can result in billions in fines and criminal prosecution. Every model improvement must be validated against comprehensive test scenarios before production deployment, and every decision must be explainable to compliance officers and regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Build entity resolution matching transaction parties against sanctions lists
  • Design network analysis detecting evasion through intermediary entities
  • Handle name transliterations, aliases, and deliberate obfuscation techniques
  • Validate screening models against comprehensive test scenarios before deployment
  • Ensure decision explainability for compliance officers and regulatory review

Requirements

  • 5+ years in financial compliance technology or entity resolution
  • Strong PyTorch and Python skills for NLP and matching models
  • Experience with sanctions lists, PEP databases, and compliance workflows
  • Understanding of name matching across scripts and transliteration systems
  • Track record building systems with regulatory-grade accuracy requirements
