AI SDK Migration Automation Developer

About the role

When an API breaks backward compatibility, thousands of developers need to update their code. The migration guide exists, but applying it requires reading 40 pages of documentation and manually updating every affected code pattern across a potentially large codebase. Our migration automation tool reads the migration guide, analyzes the developer's code, and produces a ready-to-review diff that applies the changes automatically. You'll build the code transformation pipeline: parsing migration guides to extract change patterns, analyzing target codebases to identify affected patterns, generating syntactically correct replacement code for each affected location, and producing a PR-ready diff with explanatory comments. It's code understanding meets code generation. The developer experience team is three engineers. You'll start with the pattern extraction module — learning how migration guides are structured and which patterns the LLM needs to understand. Your senior teammate handles the code generation; you handle the migration guide parsing and pattern identification that drives it.

Responsibilities

  • Parse migration guides extracting change patterns and transformation rules
  • Analyze codebases identifying locations affected by API changes
  • Generate replacement code for each affected pattern
  • Produce PR-ready diffs with explanatory comments
  • Test transformation accuracy across different codebases and languages
  • Document supported migration patterns and limitations

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development experience
  • Basic understanding of code structure and AST concepts
  • Familiarity with LLM frameworks for code analysis
  • Interest in developer tools and API design
  • Systematic approach to testing code transformations
