AI Self-Serve Metric Definition Assistant

About the role

You'll be the third person on our dashboard intelligence pod, working alongside two engineers who built our natural language query layer and now want a self-serve assistant that helps users define new metrics correctly instead of guessing at SQL. Right now, when a business user wants a new metric on their dashboard, they either wait for a data analyst or define it inconsistently themselves. You'll build an assistant that walks users through metric definition step by step, checking their logic against existing metric definitions to catch conflicts early. This is an on-site role based in our New York office, where you'll sit with the dashboard product team and iterate on the assistant in daily working sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Build a guided metric definition assistant for dashboard users
  • Check new metric definitions against existing ones for conflicts
  • Translate user input into correct SQL and Power BI metric logic
  • Iterate daily with the dashboard product team based on user testing

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience with SQL and BI tooling
  • Interest in building user-facing data tools rather than just backend pipelines
  • Comfortable working on-site with a fast iteration cadence
  • Power BI familiarity is a plus
