AI Sidewalk Accessibility Obstruction Mapping Engineer

About the role

Our mission is to make city infrastructure data actually useful for the people who depend on it most, and wheelchair and mobility-device users keep telling city partners the same thing: sidewalk obstruction data barely exists. You will build a computer vision pipeline that processes street-level and municipal camera imagery to detect and map sidewalk obstructions, construction debris, illegally parked vehicles, missing curb cuts, feeding directly into city accessibility planning tools. This hybrid role is based out of our urban data hub, working two days a week alongside city planning partners who will use your maps to prioritize accessibility repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Build a computer vision pipeline detecting and mapping sidewalk obstructions from imagery
  • Classify obstruction types relevant to accessibility planning priorities
  • Own the GCP-based pipeline processing street-level and municipal camera feeds
  • Work directly with city planning partners to validate map accuracy on the ground
  • Present accessibility impact findings to municipal accessibility committees

Requirements

  • 6+ years in applied computer vision, ideally geospatial or urban data
  • Strong Python skills and experience with GCP-based pipelines
  • Genuine interest in accessibility and public infrastructure
  • Comfortable working directly with municipal government partners
