AI Solar Panel Defect Vision Inspector

About the role

The inspections you'll automate currently cover over 200,000 solar panels across our clients' utility-scale installations. Manual thermal drone review is slow, inconsistent between inspectors, and misses subtle microcracks that reduce panel lifespan. You will build a computer vision system that detects microcracks, hotspots, and delamination from drone thermal and RGB imagery, replacing manual review with a consistent, auditable inspection process. Reliability and auditability are non-negotiable, since these inspections feed warranty claims with panel manufacturers. You'll work hybrid, splitting time between our lab and occasional site visits to calibrate the model against real installations with our field inspection team.

Responsibilities

  • Build defect detection models for solar panel thermal imagery
  • Detect microcracks, hotspots, and delamination
  • Calibrate models during site visits with field inspectors
  • Maintain audit trails for warranty claim documentation
  • Benchmark detection accuracy against manual inspection

Requirements

  • 5+ years working with computer vision on industrial imagery
  • Experience with thermal imaging analysis
  • Comfortable with occasional site travel
  • Strong PyTorch and TensorFlow skills
