About the role

We believe fluency isn't a single score, it's a trajectory, and our learners deserve to see their own progress instead of just a grammar percentage. As a fully async team spread across nine time zones, we believe great engineers can build meaningful things without daily standups getting in the way. Your job is to design a model that tracks fluency indicators — hesitation, vocabulary range, self-correction — across a learner's recorded sessions and turns that into a progress chart they'll actually want to check. You'll work closely with our linguists, who will push back hard on anything that oversimplifies real language development.

Responsibilities

  • Design fluency indicators from recorded speaking session data
  • Build a longitudinal model tracking learner progress over time
  • Partner with in-house linguists to validate scoring logic

Requirements

  • 2-4 years working with audio or sequence models
  • Experience with tensorflow or keras in production
  • Interest in language learning or applied linguistics
