About the role

Our models predict game outcomes for 6 professional sports leagues. Not for fun — for regulated sportsbooks that need accurate probability estimates to set lines. When our models are well-calibrated, the books manage risk better. When they're not, someone loses money. This is a 6-month contract to improve our prediction accuracy for NBA and NFL markets. You'll work with historical game data, player tracking statistics, and real-time injury/roster feeds to build features that capture game dynamics better than our current models. Each model improvement is backtested against 3 seasons of actual betting lines. Calibration is everything. A model that says 'Team A wins 65% of the time' needs to be right almost exactly 65% of the time over thousands of predictions. Responsibilities

  • Build predictive models for NBA and NFL game outcome probabilities
  • Engineer features from player tracking, injury reports, and roster data
  • Backtest model improvements against 3 seasons of historical betting lines
  • Optimize probability calibration across different market types
  • Deliver weekly performance reports with model accuracy metrics

Requirements

  • 3+ years in predictive modeling or quantitative analysis
  • Strong Python skills with PyTorch and scikit-learn
  • Deep understanding of probability calibration and statistical testing
  • SQL proficiency for large-scale sports data queries
  • Interest in sports analytics (domain experience a plus, not required)
