AI Streaming Schema Drift Alerting Engineer

Benjamin Leclerc

Full-time · Job · UTC

About the role

As a fully async team spread across nine time zones, we believe great infrastructure engineers ship reliable systems without needing to be in the same room. We already stream terabytes of event data daily through Kafka into our clients' lakehouses. What's missing is early detection when upstream producers silently change schema and break downstream jobs hours later. Your role is to build the alerting layer that catches schema drift at the point of ingestion, before it becomes a 2am incident for someone else's on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Build schema drift detection at Kafka ingestion points
  • Design alerting thresholds that minimize noise while catching real breaks
  • Instrument pipelines with schema versioning and lineage metadata
  • Work async with client data teams across time zones
  • Write runbooks for common drift scenarios

Requirements

  • Experience with Kafka and streaming data pipelines
  • Strong Python skills, familiarity with Spark and Airflow
  • Comfortable working async with minimal synchronous meetings
  • Experience with cloud data infrastructure, AWS preferred

Benefits

  • Fully remote, async-first culture
  • Home office stipend
  • Health coverage
  • Flexible hours
