About the role

A student who stops completing assignments, logs in less frequently, and starts rushing through content is about to disengage — but by the time a teacher notices these signals, the student is already 3 weeks behind. Our engagement prediction model detects early warning signs from learning platform behavior and alerts instructors while there's still time to intervene. The modeling challenge is separating meaningful disengagement signals from normal variation. A student who skips Monday's lesson might be sick; a student who consistently spends 40% less time on assignments for 2 weeks straight is in trouble. You'll build the behavioral features that capture these patterns, calibrate the prediction model to fire early enough for intervention without creating alert fatigue, and measure whether instructor interventions triggered by model alerts actually improve student outcomes. This is a 9-month contract. You'll work with our learning science team who defines what engagement means and our product team who builds the instructor alert interface.

Fully remote.
