About the role

A systematic review is the gold standard for synthesizing research evidence on a specific clinical or scientific question. It requires a prospectively registered protocol specifying the exact PICO question (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome), inclusion/exclusion criteria, database search strategy, data extraction template, and statistical synthesis approach. Writing a protocol that satisfies PRISMA guidelines, will survive peer review, and actually answers the clinical question takes experienced clinical researchers weeks. We serve 18 research institutions with research intelligence tooling. Systematic review protocol generation is the capability our academic medical center clients are most eager to accelerate: researchers who need to perform systematic reviews as part of clinical guideline development, health technology assessment, or regulatory submission preparation would benefit enormously from AI assistance in protocol drafting that reduces the tedious formalization work while leaving the clinical judgment to the researcher. You'll build the protocol generation system: PICO question structuring from a researcher's free-text research question, inclusion/exclusion criteria suggestion based on analogous reviews in the literature, and database search strategy generation with appropriate MeSH term and Boolean logic construction. The validation standard is acceptance by protocol peer reviewers at PROSPERO.

Responsibilities

  • Build PICO question structuring system transforming researcher free-text questions into formal PICO components
  • Implement inclusion/exclusion criteria suggestion informed by similar registered protocols and relevant clinical standards
  • Develop database search strategy generation with appropriate MeSH terms, synonyms, and Boolean logic structure
  • Create data extraction template generation aligned with the specified outcomes and study design types
  • Build protocol quality checking against PRISMA 2020 checklist and common protocol peer review criteria
  • Validate protocol quality through submission to PROSPERO and acceptance rate tracking

Requirements

  • 6+ years in NLP engineering with academic research, clinical informatics, or scientific document generation experience
  • Understanding of systematic review methodology, PRISMA guidelines, and clinical evidence synthesis standards
  • Strong Python and LLM-based structured document generation skills
  • Experience generating complex structured documents that meet domain-specific quality standards
  • Ability to collaborate with clinical researchers on clinical validity and research design requirements
