About the role

Product catalogs are only searchable if the taxonomy makes sense. But taxonomies evolve — new product categories emerge, old ones become obsolete, and the boundaries between categories shift as markets change. Our AI maintains product taxonomies for 15 e-commerce clients, and we need someone to curate the training data that teaches the AI where products belong. As a freelance taxonomy curator, you'll review AI classification decisions, correct misclassifications, identify categories that need splitting or merging, and build the golden datasets that train the next version of our classifiers. Each client has a unique taxonomy reflecting their product domain. This is knowledge work at the intersection of information science and machine learning. You'll develop expertise in how product categorization systems work — the ambiguities, the edge cases, and the business logic that determines why one classification matters more than another.

Fully remote.
