About the role

Professional translators reuse previous translations to maintain consistency — the same product name should be translated the same way every time, across every document. Translation memory systems store these approved translations and suggest matches for new content. Our AI-powered translation memory goes beyond exact matching: it understands semantic similarity, adapts suggestions based on context, and learns from translator corrections. This 12-month contract focuses on the retrieval architecture: building the semantic matching engine that finds relevant translation memory entries for new source segments, designing the confidence scoring that tells translators how much to trust each suggestion, and optimizing retrieval speed for real-time translator workflow integration. Translation memory retrieval is a specialized form of information retrieval with unique challenges. Matches need to be linguistically aligned, not just semantically similar. Source language structure matters. Terminology consistency trumps fluency. You'll navigate these domain-specific constraints while building a system fast enough for interactive translation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design semantic matching engine for translation memory retrieval
  • Build confidence scoring for translation suggestion trustworthiness

Requirements

  • 5+ years in NLP with machine translation or translation technology experience
  • Strong RAG and retrieval system architecture skills
  • Hugging Face expertise for multilingual embedding models
  • Understanding of professional translation workflows and terminology management
  • Python proficiency with FastAPI for service development
