AI Vendor Onboarding Automation Engineer

About the role

Our vendor onboarding process still takes three weeks and six people to complete. Procurement, legal, and finance all touch the same documents in sequence, and every handoff adds delay. We're building an AI layer that reads vendor submissions, flags missing compliance fields, and routes exceptions to the right reviewer automatically — cutting the cycle down to days. You'll design and ship the models and pipelines behind this system: document classification, field extraction, and a routing engine that learns from how our reviewers actually resolve exceptions. This isn't a research project — it plugs into a live procurement workflow used by every business unit. You'll work inside a cross-functional squad with a product manager, two backend engineers, and a compliance lead who reviews edge cases weekly. Sprints are two weeks, priorities are set in planning, and you'll have direct visibility into how your work changes onboarding time month over month.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vendor document classification pipeline from ingestion to routing decision
  • Build extraction models that pull compliance fields out of contracts and W-9s
  • Partner with the compliance lead to translate manual review logic into rules and model features
  • Monitor routing accuracy and retrain models as new vendor document formats appear
  • Ship incremental improvements every sprint based on reviewer feedback

Requirements

  • Experience building document processing or classification pipelines in production
  • Comfortable working with airflow-orchestrated pipelines and cloud storage
  • Able to translate ambiguous business rules into testable model logic
  • Has shipped at least one automation system that replaced a manual workflow
