AI Vibration Signature Analysis Engineer

About the role

Vibration-induced failures cost our manufacturing clients an average of $280k per unplanned shutdown. Our existing predictive maintenance models catch broad anomalies, but vibration signatures are a different problem — frequency domain analysis, bearing fault patterns, resonance detection. We need a specialist. This is a 9-month on-site contract at our partner facility in suburban Chicago. You'll have access to 180,000 hours of historical vibration sensor data across 12 machine types, plus real-time feeds from 400 currently-deployed sensors. The deliverable is a vibration signature classification model deployed to our edge inference layer. We have the infrastructure, the data, and the deployment pipeline. We need the domain knowledge and ML execution to build this module. If you've done signal processing for rotating machinery or industrial IoT — bearings, gearboxes, pumps — we want to talk immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze vibration sensor data in the frequency domain to extract fault-indicative features
  • Build classification models for bearing and gearbox fault patterns (BPFO, BPFI, BSF, FTF)
  • Validate model outputs against confirmed failure events in historical maintenance logs
  • Deploy models to the edge inference layer and monitor in production
  • Produce technical documentation for handoff to the internal ML team at contract end

Requirements

  • 5+ years of signal processing or vibration analysis for industrial machinery
  • Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow for production ML
  • Familiarity with FFT, spectral analysis, and envelope analysis techniques
  • Prior deployment experience at the edge (ONNX, TensorRT a plus)
  • On-site presence near Chicago is required for this contract
