AI Virtual Try-On Rendering Engineer

About the role

Virtual try-on lets shoppers see how clothes, glasses, or furniture look before buying — reducing returns by 28% for our e-commerce clients. The rendering challenge is photorealism under diverse conditions: different body types, lighting environments, camera angles, and material properties. A virtual jacket that looks painted on instead of draped naturally destroys the illusion. You'll improve our try-on rendering pipeline: better cloth simulation for realistic draping, lighting estimation from product photos for consistent illumination, body shape estimation for accurate garment fitting, and material rendering that captures fabric texture, reflectance, and transparency. Each improvement gets measured by A/B testing against product returns — better rendering means fewer returns. This is a 6-month freelance engagement, 30 hours per week. You'll work with our 3D artist who validates rendering quality and our product team who prioritizes which garment categories need improvement most.

Responsibilities

  • Improve cloth simulation for realistic garment draping on diverse body types
  • Build lighting estimation from product photos for consistent illumination
  • Enhance body shape estimation for accurate virtual fitting
  • Develop material rendering capturing fabric texture and reflectance
  • Measure rendering improvement through A/B testing against return rates
  • Optimize rendering speed for real-time e-commerce use

Requirements

  • 5+ years in computer vision or graphics with rendering or 3D generation
  • Experience with cloth simulation, body estimation, or virtual try-on
  • Strong PyTorch skills for generative model development
  • Understanding of physically-based rendering concepts
  • Portfolio demonstrating photorealistic rendering or generation work
