About the role

Film VFX compositing is manual, painstaking work — rotoscoping characters frame by frame, matching lighting between CG elements and live footage, cleaning up green screen edges. Our AI tools accelerate each step: automatic rotoscoping, AI-driven lighting estimation, and neural compositing that blends elements more naturally than traditional alpha blending. As a freelance VFX compositor, you'll work on specific production projects applying our AI tools to real shots. You'll identify where AI compositing produces production-quality results and where manual cleanup is still needed, document failure cases that drive tool improvements, and build the quality benchmarks that define 'production ready' for each tool. Engagements follow production schedules — typically 6-8 weeks aligned with post-production timelines. You'll work with VFX supervisors who define quality standards and with our ML team who iterates on tools based on your production feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Apply AI compositing tools to production VFX shots across film projects
  • Identify quality boundaries between AI-automated and manual compositing work
  • Document tool failure cases for ML team improvement iterations
  • Build quality benchmarks defining production-ready standards for AI VFX tools
  • Collaborate with VFX supervisors on shot-specific quality requirements

Requirements

  • 3+ years in VFX compositing or post-production
  • Understanding of AI-driven compositing tools and their limitations
  • Strong visual eye for lighting, color matching, and edge quality
  • Python skills for pipeline scripting and automation
  • Portfolio demonstrating production VFX compositing work
