AI Voice Cloning Safety Engineer

About the role

Our voice synthesis platform can clone a speaker's voice from 30 seconds of audio. That capability is incredibly useful for accessibility, content creation, and language learning. It's also incredibly dangerous if misused. We need an engineer whose entire job is making sure our technology can't be weaponized. You'll build the safety infrastructure: consent verification systems, deepfake detection models, watermarking that survives compression and re-encoding, and abuse monitoring pipelines that flag suspicious usage patterns in real time. You'll also work with our legal and policy teams to implement technical controls that satisfy regulatory requirements in the US, EU, and Asia. This is a 9-month contract focused on shipping three specific safety features before our enterprise launch. If the work goes well, we'd love to make this permanent. You'll report directly to our CTO and have significant influence over product decisions where safety and capability trade-offs arise.

Responsibilities

  • Build consent verification systems for voice cloning requests
  • Develop audio watermarking that persists through compression and format conversion
  • Create deepfake detection models to identify unauthorized voice clones
  • Design abuse monitoring pipelines that flag suspicious usage patterns
  • Implement technical controls aligned with regulatory requirements
  • Advise product team on safety-capability trade-offs for new features

Requirements

  • 5+ years in ML engineering with focus on audio, speech, or safety systems
  • Experience with audio processing, speech synthesis, or speaker verification
  • Strong Python and PyTorch skills
  • Understanding of adversarial ML and robustness testing
  • Familiarity with content safety frameworks and trust & safety operations
